THIS RESPONSE IS ON THE OPEN LINE QUESTION REGARDING PLASTICS AND GLASS COLLECTION AT OUR PUBLIC SITES?......

First on behalf of the Mifflin County Solid Waste Authority (MCSWA) it is important to take the time and thank all the residents of Mifflin County that have voluntarily taken on the task of recycling and have been patronizing the recycling drop off sites established by MCSWA through out the county.

The materials collected at these sites are based on the available outlets currently accessible to the MCSWA.  The ability to collect clean, uncontaminated materials and have in place a viable long term outlet are the two key components in determining what materials are collected at these sites.

Currently, the MCSWA is only accepting #1 & #2 plastic bottles, clear and brown glass food and beverage containers.  Due to the limited type of Plastics and glass currently accepted, these two materials are easily contaminated, mostly due the inability to provide adequate guidelines at these unmanned drop-offs.

The MCSWA is working toward expanding these two materials into our public sites but the need for a viable long term outlet for these materials must be obtained prior to these materials being added to the public sites.

Unfortunately, these two materials are only collected at the MCSWA facility on route 522N during normal business hours of m-f 7-3 and sat 8-1130.  Any further questions regarding recyclables can be addressed by calling 717-242-3301 during regular business hours or visiting our website at www.mifflincountyswa.com

One reminder to all residents using these drop off sites, Please do not place bags, ties, or packaging in the recycling bin, only the RECYCABLE MATERIAL labeled on each bin.

AGAIN, THANK YOU MIFFLIN COUNTY RESIDENTS FOR YOUR DESIRE TO ENHANCE RECYCLING WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY!!!
