2009 Recycle Contest
Theme: When You Recycle We All Benefit
 Contest
PA CleanWays of Mifflin Counties is sponsoring an art contest for students in the Art Departments of Mount Union Area  Schools. and all Mifflin County Area Schools, grades 3-5; 6-8; 9-12. Members on our Board are from Mifflin County Solid Waste Authority, Lewistown Borough Recycling, and Lewistown Wal-Mart, and Volunteers from through out the County.
 The winning design selected in this contest will be used to promote Recycling throughout the County.
 Eligibility
The contest is open to students in the Mount Union School District, the Mifflin County School District.. Only one entry per student is permitted.
 Prizes
There will be savings bonds given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each grade level 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 and One grand prize winner will be selected which will be used to promote recycling in the county.  The winners will be announced during the first full week in  May 2009.
 Theme
The theme for this contest will be the same as last years Logo, “When You Recycle We All Benefit.”
 Size and Medium
The artwork must be 10” X 16” in size and should be drawn on white paper. Students can use colored pencil, markers, ink, crayon, or any combination of these media. Artwork should not be three dimensional, but should be drawn on the surface of the paper without attachments.
 Originality
Artwork must be the student’s original work, and an adult must verify that the work is the student’s own with the accompanying entry form on the next page. A completed form should be affixed securely to the back of each artwork entry.  Entry forms should be clearly printed or typed. Students should not sign the original artwork on the front.
 Artwork may not include published material, photographs, photocopies, computer graphics, or reproduced published material.
Copyrighted or trademark characters or magazine names may not be used. Lettering must be done by hand. Stencil or plastic
stickers are not permitted. Entries must have correct spelling and grammar.
The artwork can be done as a homework or extra-curricular
activity, but an adult must verify the work as the student’s own, or it can be used as a classroom assignment.
 Judging Criteria
30% Visual Impact and Universal Appeal: Does the entry convey the message that is clear to the observer in a matter of seconds?
Does it provide profound visual impact that is appealing and easily understood by everyone?
 30% Theme Relevance: Does the overall appearance of the work and its message effectively portray the theme, “When you recycle
we all Benefit?”
 
20% Originality: Is the work clearly that of an individual? Does the work convey something unique?
 20% Neatness: is the artwork done neatly that helps present an overall appearance that is easily understood?
 Mailing and deadline
 Entries must be postmarked no later than April 24, 2009 and mailed to: PA CleanWays of Mifflin County, 248 Sechrist Rd,
Mcveytown, PA 17051 or arrangements made to have them picked up at the school.
 Artwork should not be folded for mailing to PA CleanWays of Mifflin County. All artwork submitted to PA CleanWays of Mifflin
County for judging becomes the property of PA CleanWays of Mifflin County.
 Tips for Teachers
You may find ideas for the poster at the PA CleanWays Web site at www.pacleanways.org in the Kids’ Zone. Or from PROPS,
Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania on their resources page under Defending at their Website prop@proprecycles.org.  Google
Recycling Graphics, or go to the County Recycling on the www.dep.state.pa.us  Website. Teachers should feel free to use their
creativity in conducting and promoting the contest. Entries may be displayed on a wall or bulletin board, for example, prior to mailing
